The new Malta Handball Association Premier League season began with wins for La Salle Metalco in the women’s competition and Phoenix Gasan Mamo in the men’s competition.
In the Women’s Premier League, La Salle Metalco made a strong start to their campaign with a 26–18 victory over Kavallieri. The eight-goal winning margin gave La Salle the ideal opening result and puts them on the front foot ahead of their next league fixture against Phoenix Zen to Go on 10 October.
The men’s encounter that followed produced a much higher-scoring and closer contest. Phoenix Gasan Mamo defeated Kavallieri 38–33 in the opening match of the Men’s Premier League. With 71 goals shared between the two teams, the match provided an entertaining start to the men’s championship, but Phoenix ultimately did enough to secure the first points of the season.
For Kavallieri it was a difficult opening afternoon, with defeats in both the women’s and men’s Premier League matches, although the men remained competitive throughout a game decided by only five goals.
The opening weekend results were:

Competition Result
Women’s Premier League Kavallieri 18–26 La Salle Metalco

Attention now turns to Saturday 10 October, when La Salle Metalco face Phoenix Zen to Go in the Women’s Premier League, while Phoenix Gasan Mamo take on La Salle Leapmotor in the Men’s Premier League.
