Over 230 goals across all categories, the Super Cup decided, and a milestone weekend for coach education
The Malta Handball Association (MHA) closed another memorable domestic season last weekend with an action-packed Finals’ Weekend that saw over 230 goals registered across all categories and the coveted Super Cup put on the line.
The final day was the cumulation of a jam-packed season made up of various competitions and Mini Handball Festivals — a season that has continued to grow both in numbers and in quality of play across the local handball community.
Phoenix Command Senior Ranks, Kavallieri Share Spotlight in Youth Division
Swieqi Gasan Mamo Insurance Phoenix enjoyed a strongly positive weekend, recording four wins from six games over the course of the finals — a result that saw them win the Senior Men’s, Senior Women’s, U15 Boys and U17 Girls’ finals – results that underlined the club’s consistency and depth across multiple categories. Kavallieri, meanwhile, made their mark on the youth sector, claiming both the U15 Girls and U19 Boys titles. The double success is a clear reward for the club’s continued investment in its development structures and a promising sign for the future of Maltese handball.

Coach Education: EHF Expert Luis Santos in Malta
This season has marked a significant investment in coach education, with Luis Santos becoming the third EHF Expert to visit Malta in just four months.
Santos — with the assistance of the MHA Technical Team — delivered another important segment of the Level 2 Coaching Course which covered topics such asprogression from U15 to Senior Level, defence and offensive transition as well as attack and defensive transition.
The topics were covered theoretically and then supplemented with group work with the preparation of training sessions and practical application on the pitch. Many hours were spent reflecting and exchanging ideas to enrich the process of planning and delivering handball training.

Looking Ahead: Beach Handball and the Paris Games
With the indoor season now wrapped up, the MHA looks forward to the summer season, which will shift the focus to beach handball. Both the Men’s and Women’s National Teams are set to participate in various competitions across Europe, flying the Maltese flag on the international beach circuit.
On the indoor front, the U17 Girls and U19 Boys National Teams will represent Malta at the Paris Games this July — an event that will give the country’s most promising young talents a valuable international platform to test themselves against their peers.
