Maltese handball official Marylyn Agius has reached a significant milestone in her delegate career after officiating her first EHF Champions League match, marking a proud moment for both herself and Maltese handball.

The occasion represents years of dedication, preparation, hard work and continuous development, as Agius takes another important step in her journey on the international handball stage.

Reflecting on the achievement, Agius described the experience as the realisation of a long-held dream, having admired the prestigious European competition since her early involvement in the sport.

“From the moment handball became a big part of my life, I always looked at this stage with admiration and hoped that one day I would be there. Today, I am,” she shared.

For Agius, the achievement carries particular significance given her Maltese roots. Coming from a small island where handball continues to develop and gain recognition, her involvement in Europe’s premier club handball competition highlights the opportunities available to those who pursue their ambitions with determination.

“Coming from a small island where handball is still a relatively unknown sport, standing on the biggest club stage in European handball is something I could only dream of years ago. It is a reminder that no dream is too big, no matter where you come from,” Agius said.

The occasion was made even more memorable by the opportunity to share the experience with Hungarian referees Dáné Rita and Zsófia Marton, whom Agius has worked alongside previously. She praised their professionalism, dedication and passion for handball, describing their progress as a source of inspiration.

Agius also expressed her gratitude for the opportunity, acknowledging the responsibility that comes with officiating at such a prestigious level and reaffirming her commitment to continuous learning and improvement.

MHA President Vladimiro Comodini added: “Congratulations to Marylyn on this proud moment for Maltese handball. Her achievement shows that our officials can compete at the highest level, and we look forward to celebrating many more milestones with her.”

Her EHF Champions League debut represents not only a personal achievement but also an encouraging moment for the Maltese handball community, demonstrating that dedication and perseverance can open doors to the highest levels of European competition.

As she looks towards the next chapter of her officiating career, Agius remains grateful for the journey so far and motivated by the opportunities that lie ahead.

The Malta Handball Association congratulates Marylyn Agius on this remarkable milestone and wishes her continued success.
