The Malta Handball Association appoints Diogo Castro as Handball Development and Technical Director

The Malta Handball Association has appointed Diogo Castro in the position of Handball Development and Technical Director for national teams. Diogo Castro is a Brazilian with a Portuguese passport who has a vast handball experience in the coaching and development fields. He is in possession of an EHF Master Coach certificate and a graduate with a Master’s degree in Physical Education.

Diogo Castro held the positions of technical assistant, team analyst and goalkeeper trainer with various Brazilian men’s national teams and has also worked closely with Jordi Ribera, Spain’s national coach, as video and performance analyst with the Spanish men’s national teams during the Tokyo Olympic Games (bronze medal), European Championship 2018 and 2020 (gold medal) and 2022 (silver medal), and World Championship 2021 (bronze medal).

Diogo Castro will be responsible for the mini-handball project #ForTheFuture which was launched at the end of last September. He will also oversee the restructuring of the coaching education and courses, and the creation of a player’s development pathway. He will also coordinate the national teams’ sector.

This is another important milestone for the Malta Handball Association which is in line with its strategic objectives and the European Handball Federation Master Plan Project.
